The British Heart Foundation is holding a fancy dress fundraising one mile walk along Felixstowe Promenade on Sunday July 31st 2016 at 11:30am to help raise awareness and vital funds for the Mending Broken Hearts Appeal
‘Pirates on the Prom’ will, this year, start from Ocean Boulevard Amusements (opposite the Marlborough Hotel, Sea Road) and head to Martello Park and back, with lots of ahoy-ing and shivering me timbers! It’s a great laugh for the kids and the big kids ARGH!
This year the team are very excited to have The Felix Stowaways join them on the day who will be singing some fantastic sea shanties to get the pirates in the mood.
Bex Sheppard, who is organising the event for the 4th year running along with shipmate Claire Flint, wanted to help the British Heart Foundation as the work and research they have done contributed towards saving her father’s life.
“In 1998, my dad Andy, at the age of 47, suffered a heart attack from which he was brought back to life twice by the medics at Ipswich hospital. Then in 2012 he suffered an Angina attack after which he underwent a coronary angioplasty operation at Papworth hospital. They fitted dad with a stent in his artery to help relieve the angina symptoms. We are so lucky he is still with us.”
Bex continued, “This is why the British Heart Foundation is very important to me and my family. It’s through their important research that lives are being saved and they help make a real difference to those living with heart disease.”
On the event itself, Bex went on to say, “We’ll have a lot of fun on the day while we’re raising awareness and money for a truly worthy cause – you’ll get a pirate hat and there’s also prizes for the best dressed pirates”
The event is open to all ages it is £5 for adults. Children under 14 free.
