Ipswich Road closures Sunday 14th August

Standby, the Sky Ride is coming back to Ipswich this August.

Since hosting its first Sky Ride event in 2011, over 40,000 participants have taken part in the Ipswich event, which along with British Cycling and Sky’s other cycling initiatives has helped to increase the cycling activity of local residents leading to a saving of more than £1.5m in healthcare costs related to inactivity.

John Stebbings, Operations Manager – Sport and Leisure at Ipswich Borough Council said “Ipswich Borough Council are delighted that the popular Sky Ride is coming back to Ipswich for its 6th year. We are committed to getting people up and active, and cycling is a great way for all ages to keep fit. It has been very popular in the past and we have been excited to see so many people riding the streets of Ipswich. We are sure that this year will be no different and look forward to welcoming even more people on the day to enjoy the various activities around the route. This will hopefully continue to drive up sporting participation in Ipswich and help keep Ipswich as one of the most active towns in England.”

Sir Chris Hoy, Sky Ambassador said: “Over the past eight years, tens of thousands of local cyclists have taken to the streets of Ipswich as a result of the successful British Cycling and Sky partnership and we look forward to making 2016’s Sky Ride Ipswich the biggest and best yet.”
