Funding boost for People’s Garden

ActivLives has received £19,990.00 thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

The funding boost from Postcode Local Trust will enable ActivLives People’s Community Garden to create a wild learning project at ActivLives’ community garden.

‘Nature on Your Doorstep’ project will involve garden volunteers of all ages and abilities, including local families, school groups, young people and older people, to get active for Nature.

Activities will involve planting species which are good for bees and other insects, building habitat, recording species, and learning about how everyone can do their bit in their own street, local green space or garden – or even on their windowsill.

As part of the project, there will a chance to get involved in beekeeping and birdwatching, as well as construction of bird boxes and hedgehog homes. Participants can learn how to construct a bird hide, and help create a bee and butterfly-friendly trail. We will also be improving facilities for wheelchair-users and people with restricted mobility.

Gardens Development Manager Susannah Robirosa said: “We would like to thank players of People’s Postcode Lottery for helping us to make our community garden bloom for nature. Please come and visit us and get involved.”

Postcode Local Trust exists to fund community groups and charitable organisations through a variety of grant giving programmes. To do so, the Trust relies solely on funding from the proceeds of tickets sales from People’s Postcode Lottery. When you sign up to play People’s Postcode Lottery, your postcode is your ticket. It costs £10 for 10 draws paid monthly in advance with prizes every day. A minimum of 30% goes directly to charities across Great Britain and internationally.
