The Oyster Reach Beefeater, which overlooks the River Orwell on the edge of Ipswich has re-opened following a £500,000 investment.
Part of Whitbread’s Beefeater chain, The Oyster Reach at Wherstead, was closed for just one week as tradespeople worked night and day on the new look.
Ipswich24’s Wendy Cook has been to check out the ‘new look’ Oyster Reach to see just what changes have been made. She also sampled the food at the well-known pub whilst she was there.
“From the moment you arrive at the Oyster Reach you can see the transformation”
“From the moment you arrive at the Oyster Reach you can see the transformation” says Wendy, “The whole place has a much lighter and airier feel. The table are nicely spread out and the new décor is lovely and makes for a very enjoyable place to eat a meal.
“All of the staff are friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome (the waitress did not know we were reviewing). The menu at the Oyster Reach is vast. There is literally something for everyone. We plumped for the main menu choosing both a starter and a main, however if you’re on a budget there is also a very good saver menu available too.
“Our starters arrived promptly and were delicious. I had the fish trio which was very tasty and my dining partner opted for the Arrabiata Meatballs, which he really enjoyed. For our mains we both had chicken dishes, mine the chicken escalope, my partner the smoky paprika chicken, and both were very enjoyable. You will not go hungry at the Oyster Reach as the portions are very generous.”
“Dessert followed, a banoffee pie for my partner – which included a whole banana! And a cookie dough sundae for myself, which again was rather big, but lovely.
“For me, the Oyster Reach ticks many boxes,” concluded Wendy. “Not only is it a fabulous place to eat with a lovely atmosphere, the pub also caters for a wide range of choice and occasion be it a quick bite on the way home from work to a family celebration, this place has it all”
