Suffolk Steampunk

Put the 22nd and 23rd July in your diaries as this promises to be a spectacular weekend of steampunkery at the Long Shop Museum in Leiston.

Back by popular demand, you can enter the ‘Museum of Curiosities’ for a brilliant and bustling two day brush with the bizarre and the beautiful world of steampunk, with a few sci-fi thrills and spills thrown in for good measure.

There are activities for those of all ages including tea duelling (how to dunk and keep your biscuit intact), demonstrations of gin based cuisine, unique martial art Bartitsu, high noon shoot out with with NERFs and Steampunk storytime with riveting tales. There will also be the chance to create and upcycle some geek chic couture and jewellery, and become a virtual astronaut to an imaginative parallel universe through C.A.K.E.

Immerse yourself in workshops, exhibitions, talks, performances, and a magnificently curated market place. Enjoy the paraphernalia on display such hats, jewellery and goggles fashioned from clever but eccentric designs incorporating cogs, watches and more! Flaunt your steampunk finery in a fabulous Promenade Parade through town with steam engines to lead the way.

And as night falls, beware! An invasion threatens on Friday night with Steampunks V Zombies from 5.30pm until 7.30pm. Top hatted, corseted or simply undead? Take your pick – and remember your NERF gun for this riotous after-hours romp through the museum. And on Saturday Night prepare yourself for something stronger as those aged 18+ can enjoy an evening with the spirits! Gin to be precise along with tales of a more sobering spiritual dimension…
