Heritage Open Days: Longshop Museum

The Long Shop Museum has announced that it is once again taking part in the UK’s biggest annual Heritage Festival when it opens it doors for free on Sunday 10th September as part of Heritage Open Day!

There will also be the opportunity to chat to their exiting volunteers to find out what it’s like behind the scenes and what’s involved in being part of the team.

The museum will be joining a host of other wonderful properties across the nation in celebrating local heritage and providing East Anglian communities with a fantastic opportunity to engage, at no cost, with the wealth of hidden histories on their doorstep!

Not many people know that the Long Shop Museum in Leiston, based in the former heartland of Garretts Engineering Works, houses the World’s First purpose built assembly line! Come along to find out more and have a great day out with the whole family.

The museum will be open from 11am to 3pm and visitors will be able to tour the collection, learn about the pioneering achievements of the Garrett family, see Suffolk’s deepest well, see hear and maybe even ride on engines in full steam, dress up in Victorian clothing and soak up the sun in the gorgeous garden.
