Christmas Spectacular at Snape Maltings

Journey to the mystical Land of Oz and get into the Christmas spirit early this year with a song and dance Christmas Spectacular by the Co-op Juniors Theatre Company.

The award-winning youth group has wowed audiences at the world-renowned Snape Maltings Concert Hall, near Aldeburgh in Suffolk for 12 years.
As the biggest youth production in the UK, the production boasts a live orchestra and jaw-dropping stage effects. It’s packed with familiar musical numbers performed by a cast of almost 100 in stunning costumes.

This year’s original story is inspired by the characters in The Wizard of Oz and features Dorothy Gale, the Lion, Tinman and Scarecrow who challenge the Wicked Witch of the West and set off for a musical adventure through the Land of Oz to recover the spirit of Christmas.

Audiences travel from all over East Anglia for this annual festive treat with its infectious combination of music, dance and sheer spectacle, which opens on 1st December for 12 performances until 10th December.

“We celebrate Christmas in a unique way with this production,” says director Rebecca Darcy. “The young cast bring an energy and enthusiasm to some fabulous, familiar musical numbers that the whole family can enjoy.

“We’re thrilled to be back at Snape Maltings for our 13th year of Christmas Spectacular, and that so many people choose to make our show an annual event. The spirit of Frank Baum’s characters lives on in this special festive story which has been writtten exclusively for Snape,” she added.
