Top opera will delight Regent audiences

The award-winning producer Ellen Kent is returning to Ipswich’s Regent Theatre with two stunning operas –La Traviata and Madama Butterfly.

This Wednesday (31st January), Verdi’s Traviata, the love story that gripped Paris, is set to dazzle the Regent audience.

La Traviata is Verdi’s outstanding interpretation of La Dame aux Camelias by Alexander Dumas, a tragic tale of searing passion and memorable music.

This production stars acclaimed soprano Alyona Kistenyova in the role of Violetta, bringing an extraordinary voice to one of the best loved operas of all time.
Leading soprano Maria HeeJung Kim, from the Korean National Opera, plays the title role in Puccini’s classic and well-loved Butterfly. This opera, which is on at the Regent on Sunday 25th March, tells the heart-breaking story of the beautiful young Japanese girl who falls in love with an American naval lieutenant – with dramatic results. One of the many highlights is the moving aria One Fine Day.

Both operas will be conducted by Vasyl Vasylenko, the artistic director and conductor at the National President’s Orchestra of Ukraine, and played by 30 members of the National Ukrainian Orchestra.

Award-winning Ellen Kent is the producer of Opera & Ballet International and has been the biggest supplier of opera and ballet in the UK for 26 years.
