New Suffolk Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets named

Yesterday, (Thursday 22nd February), Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk, The Countess of Euston, appointed her cadets for 2018/2019 at a ceremony held at the Ipswich Army Reserve Centre.

This year’s cadets are Able Cadet Isobel Beaumont (Sea Cadet Corps, Beccles Unit), Cadet Staff Sergeant Jack Larder (Suffolk Army Cadet Force, Ixworth Detachment) and Cadet Warrant Officer Jack Treacy (RAF Air Cadets, 301 Bury St Edmunds Squadron).

The role of the Lord-Lieutenant’s cadets is to support the Lord-Lieutenant in carrying out her duties as HM The Queen’s representative for the county of Suffolk and their appointment acknowledges their outstanding contribution to their cadet service and to the community. The cadets are recommended to the Lord-Lieutenant by their senior officers and traditionally drawn from all three services. It is an honour and a privilege to be appointed as competition for selection is very strong.

Speaking after the commissioning the Lord-Lieutenant said, “This is a wonderful and very uplifting occasion and I was delighted to have been able to present the Awards, not only to the cadets themselves but also to all the people who give so much of their time to train cadets here in Suffolk. It also gave the opportunity to recognise the great contribution made by parents in the development of their children in the cadets, which for many means sitting outside cadet huts every week to collect children. None of these achievements would be possible without their help. Congratulations to one and all.”

As part of the ceremony, The Countess of Euston also presented Certificates of Meritorious Service to Lieutenant Colonel Marc Godfrey (Royal Hospital School CCF), Staff Sergeant Instructor Theresa Jemison (Suffolk Army Cadet Force), Petty Officer Deborah Mottram (Sea Cadet Corps), Sergeant Richard Jones (3rd Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment), Sergeant Richard Barrett (6 Regiment Army Air Corps) and Lance Corporal Rebecca Barwell (202 Ipswich Sqn Royal Logistic Corps). All have demonstrated outstanding performance during their service, leading initiatives such as fundraising, recruitment, training and expeditions including The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
