A double Christmas switch on in Ipswich

Ipswich Central are providing the town centre with a real tree on the Cornhill for the second year running.

Provided on behalf of the town centre businesses, the fifty foot tree, sourced from Elvedon Farms, will be delivered on Sunday 18th November. Decoration will take place over the following three days to be ready for the switch-on Thursday 22nd November at 6.45pm.

Building on the success of last year’s tree and celebrating the new Cornhill, the tree will be taller than last year and decorated with even more baubles and lights.

Ipswich Central’s Sophie Alexander said “there have obviously been quite a few negotiations around the positioning of the tree this year after all the great work that has been undertaken to improve the Cornhill square. We are delighted to work with Elvedon once again and thank Ipswich Borough Council for all their support”.

For the first time, Ipswich will have a double switch-on with the the bauble tree once again situated at the waterfront, next to the University Waterfront Building, with the lights also switching on at 6.45pm.

Later in the month, Ipswich Central are bringing Ghost Caribou to the Cornhill, a street act of giant illuminated creatures, on Thursday 29th November and Thursday 6th December to entertain late-night shoppers. Between the 10th and 23rd December, Ipswich Borough Council are hosting a Christmas Craft Fayre in the town square.
