Bin collections in hot weather

Ipswich residents are being asked to put their bins out the night before during this extra hot weather – it means the collection crews can start a little earlier and stagger their rounds.

With the mercury rising above 30 degrees Celsius, the Borough Council believes the crews could avoid the hottest part of the day (mid-afternoon).

“We ask people to be prepared and patient – our crews do a great job but this will help during the heatwave,” said a spokesman.

Meanwhile, people flocking to parks and open spaces are being advised to wear a hat, use sun cream and take plenty of water to avoid the worst (or best) of the sun.

The spokesman added: “We have some lovely parks for people to enjoy but either take a few precautions or head for a shady spot to avoid the effects of the sun. We are not being killjoys; we just want people to enjoy themselves without getting sun-burnt or dehydrated.”
