Autumn/Winter19 at Ipswich Museums

Ipswich Museums are pleased to announce their programme of exhibitions and events from October 2019 to March 2020.
The exclusive Ed Sheeran: Made in Suffolk exhibition will be on show at Christchurch Mansion until 3rd May 2020. The exhibition explores Ed’s journey from Suffolk schoolboy to global superstar and features dozens of personal items never seen in public before. Also on display are stunning portraits and sketches by Colin Davidson and photographs by Mark Surridge. The exhibition is free to enter but booking in advance is essential.
Visit www.made-in-suffolk.co.uk to book.
The fun, family-friendly Marvellous Machines exhibition delighted visitors to Ipswich Art Gallery over the summer and is on display until 3rd November 2019. Unleash your inner inventor and get stuck into this hands-on and entertaining exhibition of quirky automated contraptions.
Following on from this, Art Forms in Nature will open at the gallery on 23rd November 2019 and run until 23rd February 2020. Forty photogravures of natural forms by German photographer Karl Blossfeldt, on loan from Hayward Gallery Touring, will be displayed alongside natural history illustrations from the Ipswich Museums collection and works by local botanical illustrator Guy William Eves.
There’s lots for kids to get up to in the school holidays! During October half term they can discover the science behind circus acts with the Strong Women Science show plus get arty at the Mansion with spin painting. The animals will be back for February half term, giving children a chance to meet real live critters! Plus Toddler Takeover will return in February at Ipswich Museum to welcome our youngest visitors.
The popular Christmas at the Mansion is back this December, with festive activities and a chance to meet Father Christmas. This year community groups have been invited to take part in the first ever Christmas Tree Festival at Christchurch Mansion.
Let’s not forget the adults! An Autumn Textiles Workshop inspired by embroideries at Christchurch Mansion will be held in October. While in November an adult workshop will be held at Ipswich Art Gallery for participants to build a giant automaton to mark the end of the Marvellous Machines exhibition. There will also be a performance of Stuff of Dreams Theatre Company’s play Edith in the Beginning.
A variety of talks will also be held, including Curator’s Introductions to exhibitons and a celebration of the international ‘Year of the Fly’.
