Award-winning opera producer Ellen Kent will bring stunning opera to the Ipswich Regent Theatre this Spring. Full of passion, romance and tragedy, don’t miss the opportunity to see this traditional art form. Whether you are an opera aficionado or have never been to one before, this is an unmissable experience.
The first of the two productions coming to Ipswich is La Bohème. One of the most romantic operas ever written, La Bohème tells the heart-breaking tale of the doomed, consumptive Mimi and her love for a penniless writer, Rodolfo. After falling instantly in love, Rodolfo later leaves Mimi due to her flirtatious behaviour, though he is wracked with guilts since their life together has surely worsened Mimi’s delicate constitution. The pair reunite briefly at the end before a tragic operatic conclusion.
Set in Bohemian Paris, Piccini’s masterpiece is a powerful and emotional opera. The set reflects the Bohemian art of the period and will include a brass band, snow effects and a full choir and orchestra. This classic story of Parisian love and loss features many famous arias including ‘Your Tiny Hand is Frozen’, ‘They Call Me Mimi’ and ‘Musetta’s Waltz’.
Ellen Kent’s traditional production features international soloists, full chorus and orchestra.
The production will be be sung in Italian with English surtitles.
