Ipswich Borough Council is hopeful that parks will open later today (Monday 10th Feb) but said safety inspections are being carried out first.
“There has been some damage to trees from Storm Ciara and we need to make sure that any loose branches and debris are cleared – public safety is our priority,” said a spokesman.
“Even though the storm has passed, it is still very blustery out there and we are continuing to monitor wind speeds. We will open parks only if it is safe to do so.”
The inspections have already got under way in parks and cemeteries. Christchurch Mansion, which remained closed during the storm on Sunday, does not open on Mondays.
Many open spaces across the town cannot be locked and the Council repeated its advice to residents to take extra care and to avoid wooded areas in high winds.
