August at The Middy

AUGUST PROGRAMME – Steam trains and added attractions every Sunday.

Steam train rides in genuine Victorian four-wheel coaches, but the Mid- Suffolk Light Railway’s summer programme has an added attraction almost every Sunday including classic and vintage vehicles, model railway shows, even a Steam Punk Day.

7th August Steam Railway & Vintage Bus Day

Growing in popularity, this event will be hosting number of attractive vintage vehicles, some of which, including the Ipswich Transport Museum’s Dennis Ace, will be offering rides off site.

14th August Steam Railway & Steam Punk Day

After their first visit last year, the Steam Punk fraternity immediately booked to come back again, so they obviously enjoyed themselves. With their wild and wonderful costumes and eager enthusiasm, so did we.

21st August Steam Railway Day + ‘Shreddie’ the award winning shunter

The one day of this year’s programme when the railway is the attraction. So it’s an opportunity to run some special operations like shunting with ‘Shreddie’, the award winning Shredded Wheat Company Fowler shunter for a bit of railway photography.

28th & 29th August Model Mania & Hornby Collectors Day + Veteran Cycles (28th August only)

The famous Hornby Collectors day has now grown into a major celebration of models of all sorts over two days. Model boats and vehicles as well as trains will be on show and on the Sunday (28th) we will be joined by the hardy souls of the Veteran Cycle Club.

Visitors can enjoy train rides as many times as they like. All the railway and museum facilities – shop, café, Restoration Shed visits and real ale bar will be open each day the railway is open.

Middy steam locomotives are often joined by Heritage Railway Association Restoration Award winning Fowler Shredded Wheat shunter. This pretty little engine may be diesel powered, but its copper capped exhaust chimney gives it a very steam like effect.

The Middy, together with added attractions, make a fascinating visit for families and rail fans alike. Opening times are from 10.30am to 4.30pm. Prices are £10 adults, £5 children under 16, families (2 + 2) £25.00, concessions £8.
