Review: A Midsummer’s Night Dream

Another classic work from Shakespeare has had the Red Rose treatment… And, the result is a fantastic evening out in a magical setting.

midsummerkirstyTheatre in the Forest returns to Jimmy’s Farm again this year, where the locally based theatre company take on the Bard’s classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream. And what better setting for a play set in a forest, than… a forest!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream tells the adventures of four young lovers and a group of part time actors, The Mechanicals, who are busy rehearsing a play for the forthcoming wedding of Duke Theseus. All is going swimmingly, until a fairy spell gets out of hand…

The clearing in the wood at Jimmy’s Farm makes for the perfect space for this great work and a very strong cast brings the story alive. The dialogue stays true to the original text, however, as always Director Joanna Carrick adds that something special to the piece. Showing her great understanding of Shakespeare’s classic tale she takes the work to a whole new level.

Full of fun, great costumes and brilliant comic timing, Red Rose’s take on A Midsummer Night’s Dream is full of surprises and is definitely one show you really don’t want to miss this Summer. Where else would you see fairies in a Reliant Robin?
