Review: The Elves and The Shoemaker

The classic Brothers Grim tale of the Elves and the Shoemaker gets the Red Rose theatre company’s festive treatment this year and the production is proving to be a huge hit.

Elvira and her father’s shoe shop is struggling and nobody wants to buy the store’s dowdy footwear. With her fancy designs being overlooked by her father Elvira is down to her last piece of shoe leather and with no money to buy anymore supplies things are not looking great for the family-run business.

But then, in the middle of the night, something truly magical happens when the shop is visited by two mischievous elves who turn the last piece of leather into the most spectacular pair of beautiful shoes…

With so many characters and quick wardrobe changes it’s hard to believe that this show is brought to life by just three very talented actors. The clever use of the set and lighting creates the perfect backdrop for this magical adventure into storyland.

The talented Joanna Carrick has created the most spectacular Christmas show with her interpretation of this well-known story. The production is full of little magical touches that are just beautiful. So, for a little touch of festive sparkle and some elf magic this show certainly doesn’t disappoint.

The Elves & The Shoemaker will be at the Avenue Theatre, Ipswich from 7th until 31st December. To book tickets visit www.redrosechain.com or telephone the Box Office on 01473 603388.
