Review: Avenue Q – Cute, Cuddly and a little bit rude

Sesame Street, but very much for adults only, Avenue Q is hilariously funny, even if some of the jokes are, well, a little bit near-the-knuckle!

Avenue Q is a run-down street in New York City and this fast paced musical tells the stories of the people, and monsters, that live there. Performed by both actors and their fellow puppet cast members, this action packed production is not for the faint-hearted.

Will Princeton and Kate Monster ever get together and make their relationship work? Will Christmas Eve ever have paying clients for her therapy business? Does Brian ever find a job? And, what exactly does Trekkie Monster look at on the internet all day?

Avenue Q is brilliantly choreographed with perfect comic timing and some very imaginative song choices. This is all performed by an amazingly talented cast. It really makes you laugh, even though you know you really shouldn’t.

So if you’re looking for a great night out, don’t listen to the Bad Idea Bears, and get yourself to Avenue Q. But a warning, after watching these foul mouthed puppets, Jim Henson’s Muppets will never again quite have that same cuteness and innocence.

• Avenue Q is at the Ipswich Regent until Saturday 4th May. To book tickets call the Box Office on 01473 433100.

This show is strictly for over 14s only!
