Mud Run makes over £8k for Suffolk Charity
A TEAM of 65 men and women crawled, ran, jumped and swam their way to securing more than £8,000 for Ormiston Families, at this year’s Whole Hog event in Wantisden.
‘Team Ormiston Families’ battled their way through a series of obstacles over the five-mile course, competing alongside dozens of other business and friendship teams from around the region.
A collective total of all sponsorships and fundraising donations toward their effort has seen the group raise £8,371.67 (excluding Gift Aid).
The amount secured will go toward helping Ormiston Families deliver vital work for children and young people, mental health support for women, and interventions for families who have a relative in prison.
Allan Myatt, Chief Executive at Ormiston Families, said: ““It was fantastic to start the race as a part of the wall of white T-shirts that was Team Ormiston Families. Although not white for long, the smiles stayed bright to the bitter end! What an incredible performance by all our participants, both for battling through the mud and their fundraising efforts!”
The event’s director, Ian Bliss, was delighted to see the event return to Suffolk after being postponed by the pandemic in 2020.
“After two years of absence, the Suffolk Whole Hog was back with a big, muddy bang,” he said.
“Over 1,500 competitors crawled, jumped, climbed over cargo nets, slid down water slides and generally had a great time on over 40 obstacles.”
“Feedback has been great, and we are pleased to have supported Ormiston Families with their fundraising efforts. See you next year for a bigger, better and muddier event!”
Sam Darr, the Ormiston Families’ PR and Media Officer, also participated.
He said: “Crawling through pig fields, swimming through freezing water and hauling yourself over obstacles doesn’t feel so bad when you know you’re doing it for a great cause!
“To find out the next morning that we’d raised so much more than we had aimed for was an amazing feeling.”
Such has been the success of their participation in this year’s Whole Hog, that the organisation is already looking to take names of those keen to enter for their cause next year.
