Of course, there will be steam train rides in genuine Victorian 4-wheel coaches but the Mid- Suffolk Light Railway’s June programme has an added attraction every Sunday during the month, including on the final day of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration a bonus flypast of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Hawker Hurricane.
5th June Last Day of the Queen’s Platinum Weekend
Site will still be partly dressed as for Middy in the Forties and (weather permitting) Hurricane flypast.
Then, each of the following Sundays, the Middy Station Car park will be hosting visits vehicle owners clubs as follows:-
12th June Aston Martin Owners Club
Aston Martin owners will be bringing a selection of these amazing cars to be displayed in Brockford Station car park.
19th June Suffolk Vehicle Enthusiasts Club
The Enthusiasts Club members interests cover both private and commercial vehicles so a wide ranging display of old favourites and unexpected is expected!
26th June East Anglian Practical Classics
A welcome return to owners of some of the delightful and memorable vehicles from motoring ages past. Often heard, “I had one of those!”
Visitors can inspect the various vehicles close up and, no doubt, engage the owners on their particular pride and joy and enjoy train rides as many times as they like. All the railway and museum facilities – shop, café, Restoration Shed visits and real ale bar will be open each open day.
Middy steam locomotives are joined by Heritage Railway Association award winning Fowler Shredded Wheat shunter. This pretty little engine may be diesel powered, but it has a copper capped exhaust chimney which gives a very steam like effect.
The Middy, together with added attractions, make a fascinating visit for families and rail fans alike. Opening times are from 10.30am to 4pm. Prices are £10 adults, £5 children under 16, families (2 + 2) £25.00, concessions £8.00.
