Review: Good Luck Studio
From the team behind the smash hit, The Play That Goes Wrong, Mischief’s latest offering, a dark new comedy, Good Luck Studio, bursts on to the stage at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester.
The production team and actors are under pressure to film the last ever episode of Wibble the Dragon and with just one hour of studio time left to film the last 16 pages of this Children’s TV show everything looks as through it’s running smoothly… That is, until a disgruntled failed actor shows up with his own dragon costume and a grudge against the production crew that failed to cast him in the lead role as Wibble.
Add to this a Shakespearian actor cast as King Lemon Head, a disgruntled Princess Pineapple, a puppeteer that is constantly ignored and a medic who is more interested in his chocolate bourbons, what could possibly go wrong?
Good Luck Studio is laugh out loud funny from the outset. A clever revolving stage takes the audience from the studio where Wibble the Dragon is being filmed, to the Gallery and even the medic’s room, showing the action unfold from each perspective.
Fabulously written by Henry Shields, Good Luck Studio is non-stop action from the start. An energetic piece of theatre and the gags just keep coming…. We loved it!
It’s hard to write a review without giving too much away, but it’s safe to say that after an evening with Good Luck Studio you will never look at children’s TV shows in quite the same way ever again.
Brilliantly cast and with amazing comic timing this production is surely one that you don’t want to miss. Good Luck Studio is at the Mercury Theatre Colchester until 15th October. To book tickets visit www.mercurytheatre.co.uk
