War of the Worlds
Imitating the Dog bring their bold new adaptation of The War of the Worlds to the New Wolsey Theatre from Wednesday 11 to Saturday 14 March 2026.
Four performers create an epic live “road movie” on stage, reimagining H.G. Wells’ classic tale of alien invasion and societal collapse. As extraterrestrials descend and cities fall into ruin, the story asks urgent questions: What happens when order breaks down? How far would you go to survive?
Using miniature model worlds, live green screen, camera work and projection, the company blend the filmed and the live to create a visually stunning, immersive theatrical experience. Actors perform in real time as their images are projected into detailed model landscapes — building a gripping, cinematic retelling before the audience’s eyes.
Ambitious, inventive and strikingly relevant, this production explores themes of paranoia, technological and ecological crisis, and how society responds under pressure — all brought to life by just four performers.
