Ipswich Gang Show 2026
Throughout the year boys and girls who are members of Scouting and Guiding attend their usual meetings. Here they embark on a wide variety of adventurous and fun activities and camps. However, from November through to Easter around 60 of these young people along with their volunteer leaders rehearse for the annual ‘Gang Show’.
The Ipswich show has entertained audiences for almost 90 years (we will celebrate in 2028) and is one of many shows around the world. It is said that there is a Gang Show being performed somewhere every day of the year. Based on an idea by Ralph Reader, the show with the help of a talented production team, has evolved into the modern, fast paced, and fun variety show that it is today. The sixty strong cast is drawn from members of local Scout, Guide, Explorer, Ranger and Cub units from the Ipswich area. Behind the scenes, as with every show, there are many more people…. the scenery and props are made by a team of adults and all the costumes are sewn by a small group. We have a very experienced lighting and sound team and they along with a brilliant group of musicians ensure that the show is of a high standard.
So, what is a Gang Show? Already mentioned it is based on an idea by Ralph Reader and is a variety show suitable for all the family. There is no theme running through the show instead it is a series of song and dance items, comedy numbers and good all-round entertainment. Listen out this year for songs from all eras and genres, be impressed by the dancing of the girls (who are not part of a dance group just members of Guiding and Scouting) and do look out for the ballet! If you haven’t watched a Gang Show for a number of years you will be amazed at the changes that have taken place.
So ‘The Gang’s All Here’ will you be?
