Latest section of King Charles Coastal Path opens

A new walking route has been launched to give ramblers a more engaging way to explore their local landscape.

The Ipswich Waterfront Walk, part of the King Charles III England Coast Path, showcases some of the best of Suffolk’s county town and surrounding areas.

Developed by Suffolk County Council, the 5.5-mile trail passes through Orwell Country Park, Pipers Vale, Landseer Park and Holywells Park before reaching the waterfront.

At the official opening of the route on Monday 16th March, Council cabinet member Paul West said the route highlights “our most treasured green spaces” while promoting health and active travel.

The walk forms part of the England Coast Path in Suffolk, opened in 2025 between Felixstowe and Shotley, crossing the River Orwell via the Orwell Bridge.

It features two gateway points beneath the bridge, each with a bench, a QR code linking to other Suffolk walks, and a wooden fingerpost made by students at St Joseph’s College.
