All Aboard for Easter Steam-up

The first major weekend opening of 2026 at the Mid Suffolk Light Railway will be the Easter Gala Steam-Up.

There will be two locos in steam on both days, ‘Illingworth’ an 0-6-0 saddle tank built by Hudswell Clarke of Leeds in 1916 and a genuine light railway loco having worked the Nidd Valley Light Railway during the 1920s, plus a newcomer to the Middy, a 1915 Peckett & Sons 0-4-0ST named ‘May’, which arrives with this month

All the Middy attractions, Museum, Restoration Shed, Tea Room and The Middy real ale bar will be open and ready for a great weekend’s entertainment.

Also this weekend will be the first time that members of the public will be able to ride on the newly acquired ex-GER coach no.14, the museum’s only six-wheeler and the only known existing vehicle ever to have run on the old Mid-Suffolk Light Railway.

The USAAF 34th Bomb Group’s Museum will also be open this weekend.

And of course there will be our traditional Easter Bunny hunt for the younger visitors!
