Discover Ipswich’s hidden gems

Ipswich is steeped in history with hidden gems around every corner. Guided walks take place every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon through the summer months to help you find them. They’re a great way to explore all areas of the town – the Heart of Ipswich, Westside Story, Northern Highlights and the bustling Waterfront.

A variety of themed walks are available to cater for all interests.  Titles include Hidden Corners; Last Orders; Medieval and Tudor Ipswich; Love It And List; and Blue Plaques.

This year Ipswich honours John Constable’s birth in Suffolk with three inspiring Constable 250 exhibitions at Christchurch Mansion; the first is already attracting national attention.

The Ipswich Tourist Guides have contributed to the celebrations by including special walks focusing on artists. Why not join them to ‘Walk in Constable’s Footsteps’ or here how Thomas Gainsborough began his career here and raucous 18th century goings on with his chums in the Ipswich Music Club?!

Taking a guided tour is a fun way for locals and visiting tourists to find out more about the town. All are welcome and the cost is just £6 per person.  Advance booking at https://ipswichinstitute.org.uk/ipswichtourist/ is advisable to guarantee your place but not always essential. Walks start at 2pm from Admiral’s House, 13 Tower Street, IP1 3BE (conveniently close to town centre car parks and bus stations) and last about 90 minutes.

• Groups and coach parties catered for by arrangement. Initial enquiries:  email  ipswichtouristguides@gmail.com
