Crazy stars ready for Regent run

Crazy For You stars Tom Chambers, Charlotte Wakefield and Claire Sweeney are working hard on the final rehearsals for the Ipswich leg of their UK tour.

The Watermill Theatre production comes to the Regent Theatre this month and promises a high-energy, high-kicking spectacular that the Gershwin brothers’ soundtrack demands.

The comedy is fast, physical and family-friendly, with wicked one-liners making up every exchange between the characters, not letting a single word go to waste without entertaining the audience.

Strictly sensation Tom Chambers is really looking forward to the opening of the week-long show in Ipswich but admitted his role as Bobby is more physically demanding than any other he has performed in.

Tom saw Crazy For You when it was first on stage in the early 90s and has been bewitched by the soundtrack ever since, fulfilling a boyhood dream by landing the lead role. “Taking on Crazy For You was a no-brainer for me. It is absolutely my all-time favourite musical. I think Crazy For You has the perfect balance of humour, story and singing … it’s a bit like the show dance on Strictly with everything slotting into place in the right order.”

Theatre star Claire revealed how much she is enjoying playing Irene Roth, Bobby’s fiancée, and that the character is just the kind of fun, sexy role she loves to play. “Charlotte and I are great pals and had lots of fun working on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. So, I’m really looking forward to working with her again. Tom is such a great guy … he is incredibly talented, he’s sensational at what he does and such a nice guy as well.”

Crazy For You is at the Regent Theatre from Tuesday 20th to Saturday 24th February.
Shows at 7.30pm with three 2.30pm matinees. Tickets are on sale at www.ipswichregent.com
