Give croquet a try

Anyone looking to try something new this autumn can discover the fun of croquet thanks to an exciting new Pay and Play scheme being launched by Ipswich and District Croquet Club in November.

The initiative offers an opportunity to enjoy this traditional lawn game without the need to become a club member. Whether playing with family, friends or work colleagues, or simply looking for a new hobby, everyone is welcome.

Sessions will run on Mondays and Saturdays from 10am until noon, costing just £6 per person for two hours of play. All equipment, including mallets, hoops and balls, is provided, so there is no need to bring anything apart from suitable footwear. Flat-soled shoes or trainers are essential, while dress is otherwise informal.

Beginners need not worry about having any previous experience. A club member will be on hand to welcome newcomers, explain the basics and provide a short coaching session before their first game. After some practice, participants will be paired into teams of two to enjoy a friendly match, with further guidance available whenever needed.

On their first visit, participants will be asked to complete a form with their details for insurance purposes.

Ipswich and District Croquet Club is situated on Bucklesham Road, Ipswich, IP10 0AA. The entrance is on the north side of the road, marked by flagpoles and signs bearing the club’s name.

With affordable sessions, equipment provided and a warm welcome for beginners, the new scheme offers a great way to enjoy some fresh air, gentle exercise and friendly competition.
