Hallowe’en – stay safe
Suffolk Police are urging residents to stay safe this Hallowe’en and ensure celebrations remain fun, respectful and within the law.
While many families enjoy trick-or-treating, police are reminding people to respect those who do not wish to take part. Knocking on strangers’ doors can be distressing or intimidating, particularly for older and vulnerable residents, so people are asked to be considerate of others.
Officers will be carrying out additional patrols throughout the Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night period, working alongside local partners and businesses to help keep communities safe.
Posters help residents show whether trick-or-treaters are welcome
Suffolk Police have made two posters available for households and businesses to download and display, making it clear whether they welcome trick-or-treaters.

Hallowe’en safety advice
Police are encouraging trick-or-treaters to follow a few simple safety measures:
- Never go trick-or-treating alone.
- Stick to well-lit areas.
- Wear bright or reflective clothing to remain visible to motorists.
- Never enter the home of someone you do not know.
- Respect residents who do not wish to take part in Hallowe’en celebrations.
Retailers across Suffolk are also being encouraged to restrict the sale of eggs and flour to young people in the run-up to Hallowe’en, helping to prevent anti-social behaviour.
With Bonfire Night approaching, businesses are reminded that it is illegal to sell fireworks to anyone under the age of 18. The sale of certain prohibited fireworks, including mini-rockets and bangers, is also illegal.
How to report anti-social behaviour
Anyone with concerns or information about an incident can contact police on 101 for non-emergency assistance. In an emergency, call 999.
Information can also be submitted online via the Suffolk Police website.
