Stop, listen, and pass it on!

Stop and listen for a few moments… November brings the crunch of leaves, the crackle of bonfires, the whoosh of fireworks, the squeals of excited children, the heavy footfall of the High Street and the chatter of people’s festive plan-making.

Winter is full of exciting excuses to wrap up warm, get out there and to hook up with friends and family. But for many, the season brings more sadness than celebration. Worsening weather and darker-for-longer days only increase the chances of people feeling lonely and isolated in their homes.

So, we ask you – can you help?

The Ipswich Oddfellows, is a local friendship group that organise a variety of social events to encourage people to venture out and make new friends, and to help lift spirits during bleaker times.

If you know of anyone who would benefit from a bit of friendly company and to get out of the house, then pass on our name.

Tell them, they’ll hear the ticking of brains over a game of cribbage and our fundraiser Quiz and Chips Lunch, the sighs of satisfaction after making something lovely at the crafts session, and loud shouts at Bingo! There’s ‘ching ching’ of group Christmas shopping planned at Lakeside Shopping Centre and laughter galore at the Thursday activity session. There’ll always be the clatter of teacups too! What a wonderfully noisy group we are!

Sound a good idea? The Oddfellows welcomes everyone of all ages and walks of life to give their social events a try. The Hall is easy to find in High Street, near the Ipswich Museum and a short walk from bus stops and Crown Street car-park.

Membership of the Oddfellows is from £25 a year. For more information about ‘trying before buying’ please call Lynne on 01473 251867, or email out ipswich.branch@oddfellows.co.uk. Check out www.oddfellows.co.uk/events or www.facebook.com/OddfellowsIpswich
