Ipswich Remembers
The people of Ipswich will come together on Sunday 8th November to honour the servicemen and women who gave their lives in conflicts around the world, remembering all those who have served and continue to serve in the Armed Forces.
The annual Remembrance Sunday service will take place at the Cenotaph in Christchurch Park, with proceedings beginning at 10.55am. Veterans, serving military personnel, civic dignitaries, cadets and members of the public will gather for this important act of remembrance.
The parade will make its way through the town centre before entering Christchurch Park, accompanied by military representatives and youth organisations. The ceremony will include hymns, prayers, readings and an address, followed by the laying of wreaths in tribute to the fallen.
At 11am, those gathered will observe the traditional two-minute silence, providing an opportunity to reflect on the courage, sacrifice and suffering of those affected by war. The sounding of the Last Post will mark the solemn moment, before Reveille signals the end of the silence.
Organised by the Royal British Legion and Ipswich Borough Council, the service offers an opportunity for the community to come together and pay their respects. Members of the public are warmly invited to attend and are encouraged to wear a poppy in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday, supporting the Royal British Legion’s work with serving personnel, veterans and their families.
Remembrance Sunday remains an important occasion for people of all generations to reflect on the freedoms enjoyed today and ensure that the sacrifices made by so many are never forgotten.
Remembrance services elsewhere: In Felixstowe, the Civic Act of Remembrance will take place at the seafront War Memorial. In Woodbridge, the parade leaves Theatre Street at 10.50am, followed by the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial and an open-air service on Market Square.
