IBC consults on Dog Control & Fouling

Ipswich Borough Council are inviting residents to give their views on a new borough-wide Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) that will strengthen dog control powers and tackle dog fouling in public places.

The Order will give the Council and the Police the relevant powers to intervene when someone is failing to comply with the rules and issue a Fixed Penalty Notice or refer for prosecution (which can result in a fine).

PSPOs were introduced as part of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 to address anti-social behaviour (ASB) in local areas.

The request will be considered at Ipswich Borough Council’s Full Council meeting on 17 November 2021 following an 11-week public consultation that will take place from Wednesday 23 June 2021 to Tuesday 7 September 2021.

Councillor Alasdair Ross, Ipswich Borough Council’s Community Protection portfolio holder, said: “We want our parks and open spaces to be welcoming and safe places for everyone and while most dog owners act responsibly, a small minority do not, and this can have a detrimental impact on other visitors and local wildlife.

“This Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) will help us ensure that the people causing distress or disruption are held to account.”
