A brand-new local radio station is about to launch from it’s base in Felixstowe and goes on-air on the 15th July.
Suffolk Sound is the new online service playing music from the 70s, 80s and 90s. Hoping to appeal to the 35+ market, the new station with familiar Suffolk presenters, will be based prominently at the popular retail and food centre Beach Street right on the seafront in Felixstowe.
Talking about the new radio station, Rob Dunger, co-founder and renowned presenter was excited by the opportunities that Suffolk Sound will bring. “The community engagement in our area is bursting with both hope and resilience” said Rob, “The passion, the love, the dedication and fervour is evident in every walk of life. Through my work in radio, it’s my job to bring those stories to the widest audience possible. Suffolk Sound will be at the heart of the community, talking about what you do, from the place where you live. Suffolk Sound is the most exciting chapter in my broadcasting career.”
Co-founder Richie Ross, who has a proven track record in successfully launching and running community radio stations, says, “We believe changes to BBC local radio have shifted the prominence of local radio for our communities here in Suffolk. Many people across the region are being side-lined and losing the trusted voices they enjoyed listening to. Suffolk Sound’s mission is to be fully embedded into the communities we, as presenters of this exciting new station all come from.”
The line-up of presenters is yet to be announced although Richie says, “Over the next few weeks we’ll be announcing the line up of presenters – some will be very familiar to listeners across Suffolk! We’ll also be offering a platform for Suffolk organisations, groups and individuals with a story to tell, to be heard. Above all, it will fun, fresh and focused on everything that is great about this fantastic County.”
