Summer Holidays Mean Adventure for Felixstowe Sea Cadets
Summer at TS Landguard
While many young people spend the holidays relaxing, summer is one of the busiest and most exciting times for the cadets of TS Landguard. The school holidays are filled with adventure, learning and new experiences, from sailing and rowing on the Suffolk coast to national training courses and unique visits such as the RRS Sir David Attenborough during her recent visit to Harwich.
Felixstowe on the water
Based in Felixstowe, TS Landguard gives cadets access to excellent watersports facilities. Regular sessions at Felixstowe Ferry and Ipswich Docks allow cadets to learn sailing, powerboating and rowing under the guidance of qualified volunteer instructors. These activities provide recognised qualifications while developing teamwork, leadership and responsibility in a safe and supportive environment.
Opportunities across the UK and beyond
Summer also offers the chance to attend residential Sea Cadet courses throughout the UK and at international units in Gibraltar, Malta and the Bahamas. Cadets can spend a week away developing specialist skills in sailing, kayaking, engineering, music, leadership and first aid, while meeting young people from other units, building lasting friendships and growing in confidence.
More than watersports
The holidays are not only about being on the water. Cadets also take part in sports, navigation exercises and community events, ensuring there is something for everyone regardless of their interests. Each new challenge helps prepare young people for the future.
A team effort
Behind every activity is a dedicated team of adult volunteers who organise training, maintain equipment and ensure every session is safe, enjoyable and rewarding. Their commitment enables local young people to access opportunities they might not otherwise experience.
